HANAHAN, S.C. – A few of Santa’s helpers were busy Tuesday making things merry and bright in Hanahan for one homeowner in need.
After Hanahan city workers recently learned that a terminally ill resident is no longer able to care for their property, they did the next logical thing: clean it up for them.
In just a couple of hours, a team from the city’s administration, fire, public works, and recreation departments cleaned and removed all the debris from the homeowner’s yard and cut the grass and shrubs.
They even boarded up some broken windows.
Community members took to social media to express their gratitude.
“This is about a caring Hanahan! Sometimes we just don’t know what’s going on in a home,” one Hanahan homeowner posted. “The giving of city employees beyond their jobs shows loyalty to our citizens, our neighbors. THANK YOU!”
“Now this is the Hanahan I love. Kindness, compassion and caring,” former Hanahan mayor Minnie Newman said.
The City of Hanahan shared several before and after photos on its official Facebook page.
