Thunderstorms, Gusty Winds Possible Friday For Berkeley County

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Another storm system is expected to arrive Friday in the Lowcountry, including Berkeley County.

According to the National Weather Service, starting at 3 p.m. Friday, a lake wind advisory will go into effect for Lake Moultrie. It will remain in place until 9 a.m. Saturday.

Southwest winds 15 to 20 knots with gusts to 25 knots and waves one to two feet are expected.

“Strong winds and rough waves on Lake Moultrie will create hazardous conditions for small craft,” the National Weather Service said. “Boaters on Lake Moultrie should use extra caution since strong winds and rough waves can overturn small craft.”

In addition to gusty winds, weather experts forecast that showers and thunderstorms will likely impact the Berkeley County area on Friday.

“Some of the storms could become severe with damaging wind gusts and isolated, brief tornadoes, mainly in the late morning and afternoon,” the NWS forecasts for inland Berkeley County.

This upcoming storm system isn’t expected to be as strong as Tuesday’s weather. Here’s a detailed look at the weather forecast for Berkeley County:

Friday: A chance of showers, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. High near 68. East wind 5 to 15 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 11 p.m., then a slight chance of showers between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 45. Breezy, with a south wind 14 to 20 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 55. West wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
