BERKELEY COUNTY, SC – After a multi-day search, deputies arrested Charles Britt Jr. on Monday at approximately 2 a.m. Britt was located in the Francis Marion National Forest sleeping, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
He was apprehended by two K9s and a search team that consisted of deputies from Berkeley County and Charleston County as well as SLED agents. Britt was located with weapons and hundreds of ammunition, BCSO said.
Deputies had been searching for Britt since Wednesday, Jan. 24. On that day, deputies responded to a residence on Tea Rose Lane in reference to a call about an assault. The assault occurred on 129 Eggleston Way.
Deputies met with the victims who stated Britt approached them at their residence on Eggleston Way and he was irate. Britt accused the victims of calling the police on him.
During the argument, Britt grabbed a pole off the ground and hit the victim across the chest with the pole. Britt then grabbed a pistol out of a truck and held it to the victim’s head and pulled the trigger. The pistol misfired and didn’t discharge. Britt then pointed the pistol at one of the victim’s dogs and fired the weapon into the ground. Britt then left the scene. Deputies searched for Britt but did not locate him.
Britt was wanted on charges of Attempted Murder, Pointing and Presenting (x2), Armed Robbery, Grand Larceny, Possession of Weapon During a Violent Crime (x2), and Possession of Weapon During a Violent Crime by Felon (x2).
Britt will face new charges in connection to the manhunt.
