BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – A circuit court judge in Berkeley County has given a father and stepmother accused of killing their son nearly 35 years ago each a $50,000 surety bond.
Megan Renee Turner and Victor “Buddy” Lee Turner are both facing murder charges. They are accused of killing 5-year-old Justin Turner in 1989. According to investigators, Justin died by strangulation and was sexually assaulted.
A judge granted Megan’s bond on Wednesday. Victor appeared in court Thursday where he, too, was given the same bond amount.
As a condition of their bonds, the pair cannot leave South Carolina for any reason and must appear for all scheduled court appearances, court records show.

According to an affidavit, on Friday, March 3, 1989, Megan falsely reported Justin as missing to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office by claiming he failed to get off the school bus that afternoon. Investigators said witnesses, however, verified that Justin never got on the bus to Whitesville Elementary School that morning and was absent from school.
Sheriff Duane Lewis said during a news conference last month that Victor and Megan were the last two people to see Justin alive. New technology ultimately led to new evidence pointing to Megan and Victor as the only people responsible for Justin’s death, the sheriff said.
Megan and Victor are due back inside a Berkeley County courtroom for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 16.
