BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Cordero Prioleau, 35, of Ladson, was sentenced to two and a half years in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to bank fraud, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Evidence presented to the court showed that Prioleau deposited a fraudulent check into his Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) bank account in the amount of $24,679.55. Before the check was returned to NFCU as fraudulent, over a five-day period, Prioleau withdrew $22,700.00 from his bank account, prosecutors said.
United States District Judge Richard Gergel sentenced Prioleau to 30 months imprisonment, to be followed by a three-year term of court-ordered supervision. There is no parole in the federal prison system.
This case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation. OCDETF identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations that threaten the United States by using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach that leverages the strengths of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies against criminal networks.
This case was investigated by the FBI Columbia Field Office and the United States Secret Service with assistance from the Charleston Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Amy F. Bower is prosecuting the case.
