Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office To Undergo Onsite Assessment For Re-Accreditation

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is scheduled for a site-based assessment March 11-14, 2024, as part of a 4-year process for re-accreditation, administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA).

This assessment will verify that the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office continues to maintain national accreditation by confirming compliance to all applicable law enforcement standards.

The re-accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four (4) basic
areas; policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.

The program is intended to enhance organization service capabilities and effectiveness, serve as a tool for policy decisions and management, promote transparency and community trust, and establish a
platform for continuous review.

This prestigious recognition ensures that the agency is adhering to the highest standards in professional policing.

As part of the assessment process, agency employees and members of the community are
invited to offer accolades, concerns, comments or questions regarding the Berkeley County
Sheriff’s Office accreditation compliance by utilizing the CALEA Public Comment Portal at the

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office has been accredited since 2013.
