BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – One person has died and another person was injured following a collision near the Macedonia community in Berkeley County, the South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed.
The crash happened shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday on Hwy. 17A near Diamondback Lane, which is approximately one mile south of Jamestown, Trooper M.R. Ridgeway said.
According to Ridgeway, a driver from Cordesville was traveling south on Hwy. 17A in a 2024 Mitsubishi SUV as a driver from Georgetown traveled north on the same road in a 2014 Kia sedan.
At some point, Ridgeway said the driver of the sedan crossed the center line and struck the driver in the SUV head on.
The driver of the Kia sedan died at the scene of the crash. The driver in the Mitsubishi SUV was transported to Trident Hospital. Their injuries are unknown.
The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has not released the name of the driver killed in the crash. The collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
