BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – One person is dead and two others injured following a crash Friday evening in Bonneau.
According to Trooper Brandon J. Bolt with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 5:10 p.m. on U.S. Hwy. 52, one mile north of Bonneau.
Bolt said the crash occurred when a 2011 Toyota SUV and 2008 Toyota pickup truck crashed head-on into one another.
Bolt said the driver of the pickup truck and the driver of the SUV suffered injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. The passenger in the SUV died from their injuries.
What caused the two vehicles to crash into one another is unclear.
“This is all the information that I have at this time,” Bolt said.
Berkeley County EMS, Berkeley County Sherriff’s Office, North Berkeley Fire & Rescue also responded to the incident.
At 9:47 p.m., the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office was notified by a local hospital that a person was pronounced deceased from injuries sustained in the crash.
According to Coroner Darnell Hartwell, the passenger in the 2011 Toyota SUV is Tonya Frey, 28, from Summerville.
The collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and Berkeley County Coroner’s Office.
