HANAHAN, S.C. – On Thursday, a judge sentenced a man to 30 years behind bars after Hanahan police said he broke into an elderly woman’s home and raped her.
Larry Charles Ogletree, 32, pleaded guilty to criminal sexual conduct in the first degree, burglary in the first degree, and kidnapping as part of a negotiated plea.
According to the 9th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, the crime occurred on Oct. 6, 2022, when Ogletree broke into the 85-year-old victim’s house in Hanahan.
The victim immediately attempted to call 911, but authorities said Ogletree prevented her from making the call and then confined her to the home for hours where he raped her.
The assault was interrupted by a friend of the victim’s who knocked on her door, when he heard the victim screaming.
Physical and forensic evidence from the Hanahan Police Department ultimately tied Ogletree to the scene, according to Solicitor Scarlett Wilson.
“Hanahan Police Department handled this case with care from start to finish. Their thorough investigation put us in a great position to secure a solid plea and sentence for this victim,” Wilson said.
Wilson said the elderly Victim requested the sentence so that she would not have to testify about the traumatic event, and because of her concerns about the effects of a stressful trial on her health.
