Stolen Golf Cart Recovered In Sangaree, Man Arrested

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Berkeley County deputies recently recovered a stolen golf cart in Sangaree and arrested the suspect with the assistance of a tracking device.

Joshua Steven Yates, 38, has been charged with receiving stolen goods, according to deputies.

Deputies said they were called to a home on Hampton Drive in the Sangaree area for a stolen golf cart that was pinging at that location.

While knocking on the door to the house, they said Yates ran out the back door.

Deputies then made contact with the homeowner. Deputies said they explained why they were at the home, and the homeowner allowed them to retrieve the stolen golf cart from the yard.

Deputies from the BCSO K9 Unit then responded to the scene and began to track Yates, since he fled on foot.

K9 Lalo tracked to another home, and when deputies checked the backyard, they located Yates lying on the ground in the yard. Yates was taken into custody.

Deputies said they searched Yates’ and located a debit card and three other identification cards that did not belong to him.

There are more possible charges pending on Yates.

According to BCSO, he is no stranger to law enforcement. He has been booked into Hill-Finklea Detention Center at least thirteen times since 2013.
