BCSO Investigating Murder-Attempted Suicide in Goose Creek Area

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what detectives believe to be a murder-attempted suicide. The shooting occurred on Keenan Avenue in the Goose Creek area of Berkeley County.

Just before 10 p.m. Monday, deputies received a call for service in reference to a domestic violence incident with gunshots heard. Deputies arrived on scene and attempted to make contact at the residence.

Deputies said they observed evidence of a struggle and then entered the residence. Upon entering the residence, deputies discovered a female victim deceased. While conducting a safety sweep of the residence, deputies located a male with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Preliminary investigations revealed the female is the victim and the male is being investigated as the
suspect. The male was identified as Michael Scott Vasko, 31, of Goose Creek.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Katie Sullivan, 38, of Goose Creek.

“We often tell our community if they see something suspicious to call us,” Berkeley County Sheriff
Duane Lewis stated. “This tip from a neighbor helped deputies locate the crime scene in a quick
manner.”

Vasko was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Criminal charges are pending against him.
