MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Moncks Corner police are investigating a shooting at an apartment complex that claimed one life Thursday afternoon.

MCPD officers said they responded to the Plantation Apartments at 1022 Old Hwy. 52 around 12:30 p.m., after Berkeley County Dispatch received a call reporting multiple shots fired and someone lying on the ground.

MCPD and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene and located one victim in the parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Law enforcement attempted life-saving measures until fire and EMS arrived.

The victim, identified as 67-year-old Shelton Oneil Phyall, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, MCPD Captain Lee Mixon said.

During the investigation, Mixon said the suspect was identified. Jovial Price, 17, has been charged with one count of homicide and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Due to the nature of the crime, Jovial Prince is being charged as an adult and is currently awaiting a bond hearing at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center.

Chief Young said, “Our hearts go out to the family of the victim whose loved one was killed. I am also grateful for the diligent work of our officers and detectives, who quickly developed a suspect and made an arrest. There is no room for individuals to take the life of another person, and we will pursue all leads until captured, no matter how long that takes.”

This investigation is ongoing, and we are asking anyone with information to contact Lt. Matt Hoffer with the Moncks Corner Police Department at (843) 719-7939 or email him at [email protected].
