BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Portions of Berkeley County transformed into a frigid winter wonderland starting Tuesday, forcing schools, municipalities, some businesses and roads to shut down out of an abundance of caution.
According to the National Weather Service, Berkeley County experienced as much as six inches of snow on the ground as of Wednesday.
Berkeley County experienced snow flurries last in 2022. Before that, snow blanketed the area in 2018.

A large and unseasonably strong upper trough encompassed much of the northern half of the United States, allowing arctic high pressure to expand south to the Gulf of Mexico and into the Southeast United States.
Even with freezing temperatures ranging from highs in the low 30s and then dipping to the teens at night, it did not stop many residents from embracing the rare phenomenon. From building snowmen to creating snow angels, Berkeley County residents welcomed the snow despite the bitter cold.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a man wanted on felony warrants.
Deputies said they are looking for 24-year-old Charles Edward Britt, Jr., of Tea Rose Lane in St. Stephen.
He is considered armed and dangerous.

The Moncks Corner Police Department is seeking the public’s help in solving a 15-year-old homicide.
On Jan. 14, 2009, police responded to a house on Jenkins Street. When police arrived at the location, they found Michael J. Starks dead from gunshot wounds inside his home. He was 21-years-old.

A popular restaurant chain is now open for business in Berkeley County. Huey Magoo’s newest location is up and running in Goose Creek, the company announced Wednesday.
“Join us at our 56th store location to see what America has been raving about,” the chicken chain posted to Facebook.
The restaurant is located at 431 St. James Avenue where the old Bojangles once stood. Hours of operation are Sunday-Thursday from 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from 10:30 a.m.-11 p.m.
“We are thrilled to kick off 2024 with our first grand opening of the year in Goose Creek, South Carolina and resume our rapid nationwide expansion,” President and CEO Andy Howard said.

A 3-year-old dog neglected and in poor health tied to a post near railroad tracks is currently in the care of Berkeley County Animal Center and receiving life-saving medical attention.
According to the shelter, a railroad worker recently discovered Honey, a 3-year-old Pocket Pitbull, starving, tortured by infected skin, and suffering from life-threatening complications. She also tested positive for heartworms.
