GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–Jake Broom of Columbia has accepted an offer from the City of Goose Creek to fill its vacant Assistant City Administrator position. He will begin Sept. 1.
Broom comes to Goose Creek from the City of Forest Acres, where he has served in the same capacity since 2011.
Goose Creek City Administrator Dennis Harmon called Broom’s hire a feather in the cap for the City.
“I have been watching him closely,” Harmon said. “Jake Broom has become a bright, shining star and is in great demand across the state. We’re fortunate to attract someone of his caliber for this position.
“He is a bright young man … and I’m very pleased.”
According to Harmon, Broom will be heavily involved in economic development and will interact with citizens and business groups. “He will add another dimension to our management team at Goose Creek,” Harmon said.
Broom said he is excited about the opportunity.
“The City of Goose Creek has built a reputation statewide for providing strong leadership, efficient service and responsive governance over several decades,” he said. “It is an honor to join the city’s team, and my wife, Tiffany, and I are looking forward to making Goose Creek our home.”
The University of South Carolina graduate has been involved in all aspects of Forest Acres’ government over the past four years, including the creation and implementation of that city’s budget.
Broom worked in Camden, SC as Assistant to the City Manager, from 2009 to 2011. His experience also includes time as an intern at the Municipal Association and the City of Columbia, from 2007 to 2009.
