BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Three days after being shot in the line of duty, the family of Cpl. Kimber Gist has issued the following statements:
“Although the last couple of days have been trying to see a loved one in pain due to a senseless crime, we have been incredibly blessed with the outpouring of love and support for the entire family.
It is nothing short of a miracle that our loved one was placed here in Berkeley County, a place where everyone is a family.
We really want to thank all the law enforcement agencies throughout the country.
Special thanks to the North Charlton Police Department, Sheriff Lewis and the men and women of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office family. Our family has been blessed with everything we need from food to lodging. We so thankful that a Good Samaritan stopped to assist our Kimber.
Special thanks are also due to our friends and family in Woodruff, home of the Wolverines & the New Prospect Baptist Church.
We give honor and praise to God that Kimber is continuing to do well during her recovery.
Lastly, we also wanted to thank Melissa Shields, sister of Kimber’s shooter, for her statements regarding her brother.
Her statements were appreciated and we are grateful for the leadership she displayed in making them.”–Gist family
