On March 28, 2014, Charleston County Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest warrant for the arrest of Dennis Lott of Goose Creek for Breach of Trust.
Just one day prior, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, at the request of Coastal Carolina Fair employees, began an investigation into a report of missing money from the Coastal Carolina Fair’s Bank Account.
According to Coastal Carolina Fair members, Lott, who was the president at time, wrote a check belonging to the Coastal Carolina Fair out to himself in the amount of $190,000.00 and cashed it for his personal gains.
This unauthorized transaction was discovered during an audit conducted by Coastal Carolina Fair members. This incident occurred sometime in July 2013 and was reported to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office on March 27, 2014.
Deputies say it was prearranged for Lott to turn himself into the Sheriff’s Office; however, after failing to do so deputies believe that he intentionally made efforts to avoid apprehension.
Lott was located and apprehended by the Walterboro Police Department in the City of Walterboro at 7 p.m. Friday. He was operating his 2003 Toyota Corolla at the time of his arrest.
He was transferred over to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, and he is currently being transported to the Sheriff Cannon Detention Center.
Bond hearing will be held for Lott on March 29, 2014, at 10:00 AM.
Deputies says the investigation is still on-going investigation.
Every year, the fair generates more than $800,000 that is donated to dozens of charities throughout the lowcountry.
The Exchange Club of Charleston has been hosting the Coastal Carolina Fair since 1957.
