BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–On Tuesday, dozens of people packed the inside of two separate Chick-Fil-A restaurants in North Charleston in honor and support of Cpl. Kimber Gist. Her quick comeback from her February 26th shooting has been nothing short of a miracle. Gist was shot eight times while investigating a suspicious vehicle behind a grocery store on Red Bank Road. Her shooter ultimately died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head hours later. “I had to fight back tears all night long, because it is just a blessing to still be alive right now,” Gist, who attended the event, stated. The Northwoods Mall and Rivers Avenue Chick-fil-A locations donated 10 percent of their evening sales to the injured deputy. The money raised will go toward the costs associated with her recovery. From 5 p.m.-8 p.m., strangers of all ages along with many members of the law enforcement community gathered inside of Chick-Fil-A for “Spirit Night.” Gist stated that she was overwhelmed yet appreciative of the continued support. “The love and support that I have received is in an abundance. The community, my family, and my brothers and sisters in blue have been truly amazing to me,” Gist stated via social media. “All I can say is thank you a million times, and I still do not think it’s enough.” Gist was released from Trident Hospital on March 4th after spending a week there. While her road to recovery will be a long one, she’s looking forward to eventually coming back to work at the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office and patrolling the community she loves. “This is going to be an extremely long road to physically and mentally recover from, but as long as you all are in my life, this journey will be a breeze,” she stated. “Please continue to pray for me and keep me in your thoughts. Please continue to pray for all the families that have been effected by the death of one of my brothers in blue.” A GoFundMe account has also been set up for Gist. To donate, click here.
