BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Four days after they were fatally struck by a Jeep Wrangler, deputies with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office continue to search for the driver.
“Leo and DeAndre were like brothers. Best friends till the end,” stated Kimberly Lynn Dodson, who recently established a GoFundMe account for the two best friends. “The boys will be buried together.”
According to Charleston County Deputy Coroner Sandy Senn, Deandre Richardson, 16, and Leonardo Suarez-Perez, 15, both of Summerville, died of blunt force injuries as a result of a hit-and-run accident on Hwy 162 in Hollywood on Saturday night.
Dodson hopes to raise $10,000 to help pay for the teens’ burial costs. So far, more than $1,500 has been raised.
“I am so sorry for your losses,” posted one donor, Alicia Coffey. “Our family is praying for yours.”
“If you need anything, a meal cooked, a shoulder to cry on, or just a hug please don’t hesitate to let me know,” stated another donor, Shauna Morris.
Deputies say that shortly before 10:00 p.m., witnesses saw the teens riding their skateboards when they were both struck by the driver of a Jeep Wrangler. They say the vehicle was seen driving recklessly just before it struck the two boys, making an attempt to pass another vehicle.
Officers say that after striking the two pedestrians, the driver, while in the Jeep Wrangler, fled the scene.
During an active search of the nearby area, deputies were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle abandoned in the 7900 block of SC Highway 164. Shortly after locating the vehicle, the owner of the vehicle reported it stolen to the Charleston Police Department.

The funeral for DeAndre Anthony Richardson will take place Thursday at Harbor Lake Baptist Church in Goose Creek. His friend, Leonardo Suarez Perez, was laid to rest on Tuesday.
