BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Recently, neighbors in the College Park area of Berkeley County say they were so fed up with the heavy trash piled outside a home on Furman Lane that they contacted the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office for help.
Deputies say the homeowner passed away about a year ago, yet even though the family cleaned out the house, individuals reportedly came and picked through the remaining items and then discarded the rest outside.
Neighbors were unable to get the situation resolved, authorities stated. However, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office quickly addressed the issue once they were made aware of it.
On Wednesday, deputies with the CAT team worked in conjunction with code enforcement to get the outside of the house cleaned up.
Deputies say they were able to make contact with a next-of-kin who lives out of state.
The next-of-kin was then able to make contact with Melissa Polutta of Trash Gurl LLC.
After reviewing the situation, Trash Gurl volunteered their services and removed all of the items at no charge.
“Thanks to Trash Gurl for their assistance, it is great to have great business partners in the community,” the sheriff’s office posted on their official Facebook page.
