GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–Stratford High School’s state champion softball team was honored at the Sept. 13 Goose Creek City Council meeting.
Mayor Pro Tem Mark Phillips read a resolution in the team’s honor, and council voted unanimously for its adoption.
The resolution recognized “Athletic Director John Chalus Jr., Coach Debra Tolar and the Stratford Lady Knights softball team for winning the 2016 AAAA State Championship. The students, parents, faculty and supporters of the Lady Knights have come together in making a true team.”
The Lady Knights were praised for exhibiting “a work ethic and level of confidence that transcends the softball field.”
The resolution recognized Coach Tolar for earning a number of awards, including the 2016 South Carolina High School League AAAA Softball Coach of the Year, the 2016 Umpire’s Association Softball Coach of the Year, and the High School Sports Report Lifetime Achievement Award.
“During Coach Tolar’s 28 years of coaching Stratford High School … she has shown great leadership,” the resolution read.
Coach Tolar has captured two state titles, 18 region titles, and has made the playoffs 27 straight years.
The Lady Knights were represented by Amber Orvin, Chloe Pelham and assistant coach Nic Riddle, and received a standing ovation.
