A new release from Barna Group recently took a look at how 96 of the largest cities in the nation view the Bible.
The study was based on 42,855 interviews conducted nationwide, and the analysis of Bible trends was commissioned by American Bible Society. Individuals who reported reading the Bible in a typical week and who strongly assert the Bible is accurate in the principles it teaches were considered to be Bible-minded.
This definition captures action and attitude—those who both engage and esteem the Christian scriptures. The rankings thus reflect an overall openness or resistance to the Bible in the country’s largest markets.
Regionally, the south earned the titled for being “most Bible-minded” with Knoxville, Tennessee coming in at number one.
Columbia, South Carolina came in at #21 with 41% of the population considered “the most Bible-minded.” Charleston came in at #30 with 41% of the population considered as such.
The least Bible-oriented markets included a mix of regions, but tended to be from the New England area.
Providence, Rhode Island and New Bedford, Massachusetts both tied for “the least Bible-minded.”
