HANAHAN, S.C.–While battling a house fire Thursday on Willard Drive in Hanahan, firefighters say they made a gruesome discovery. As fire crews searched the inside of the house, they say they discovered the body of an 88-year-old woman.
Crews were dispatched to the woman’s house shortly before noon.
When they arrived on scene firefighters say they found the house nearly fully involved with flames.
Officials believe the fire may have started in the garage before spreading to the house.

At this time, the cause of the fire remains unknown.
The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has not released the woman’s identity at this time.
