Hanahan Man On Motorcycle Dies In IOP Connector Crash

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–On 12/11/2016, at approximately 4:08 p.m., officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to the Isle of Palms Connector and Riviera Drive in reference to a collision.

According to MPPD Inspector Chip Googe, a motorcycle was heading towards the Isle of Palms on the connector when a vehicle turned left off of Riviera Drive into the path of the motorcycle and was struck by the motorcycle in the area of the driver’s door.

The motorcycle driver was pronounced dead on the scene and the driver of the vehicle was transported to MUSC.

This collision is still under investigation, Googe stated.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has identified the motorcyclist as Zachary Grooms, 23, of Hanahan.

He reportedly died on scene of blunt force trauma.
