Goose Creek Says “Thank You” to Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem

GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–Tuesday, April 10 was a special night at City Hall.

At City Council’s monthly meeting, South Carolina Representative and former Goose Creek City Council-member Joe Daning presented Mayor Michael Heitzler and Mayor Pro Tem Mark Phillips with framed S.C. House of Representatives Proclamations thanking them for their years of service to Goose Creek.

In addition, Mayor Pro Tem Phillips was given the Order of the Palmetto, which Rep. Daning presented on behalf of South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster.

The award is the highest civilian honor given by the State of South Carolina.

Rep. Daning also presented both men with South Carolina State Flags that recently flew over the Statehouse in Columbia.

Mayor Heitzler served 10 terms as Goose Creek mayor, from 1978 to 2018.

Mayor Pro Tem Phillips was first elected to City Council in 1986.

Goose Creek voters made history on Election Day this year by choosing a new mayor for the first time in nearly 40 years.

Mayor-elect Greg Habib will be sworn into office at 7 p.m. on May 3rd at City Hall.
