Update: Body Found in Lake Marion Belongs to Missing Boater

UPDATE FROM CORONER: The body found Saturday in Lake Marion has been identified as 74-year-old Jerome [Jerry) Ferneding of Berkeley County. He was reported overdue from a fishing trip Friday. Search was conducted by the Berkeley county sheriffs office and the South Carolina Department of natural resources. His death has been ruled accidental by the Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury 

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–A body has been recovered from Lake Marion on Saturday, according to SCDNR officials.

According to Lt. Angus McBride, it was a fisherman who spotted the body and notified authorities.

The body has since been turned over to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office for a positive identification.

On Friday 74-year-old Jerry Ferneding of Pinopolis went missing while boating.

Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol Units, SCDNR and other rescue crews canvassed the area near the Canal Lakes Resort in Cross in hopes of finding the missing boater.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has not confirmed if the body found in Lake Marion belongs to Ferneding.
