BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a stabbing incident that left one man dead.

Deputies with the sheriff’s office responded to the 500 block of Maries Lane, in the Moncks Corner area of Berkeley County, early Wednesday morning for a report of a burglary.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they say a witness came out of the house to inform deputies a victim was inside with stab wounds.

The witness on scene told deputies her ex-boyfriend broke into her home and began stabbing a male in her home, according to BCSO.

When the female in the home woke up, the suspect fled the residence.

The male victim was transported to an area hospital after the stabbing incident where he later died from his injuries.

“The victim was pronounced dead at 3:07 a.m. in the emergency room,” stated Berkeley County Coroner George Oliver. “An autopsy is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.”

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased once the next of kin has been notified.

Deputies say the suspect was located shortly after the stabbing incident and was taken into custody by Berkeley County deputies. He has been identified as 26-year-old Mazen Alabsa, of Summerville, South Carolina.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office along with the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate.
