BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Berkeley County School District’s top spellers will take the stage Thursday night for the annual district spelling bee.
This bee has previously been held at Berkeley High School – attendees should note this year’s event will be held in Cane Bay High’s auditorium at 6 p.m. Spectators are welcome to come to attend as room allows.
Thirty-eight of the district’s top spellers in fifth through eighth grade will compete for the district title. The top 12 finishers will represent the district in the regional spelling bee, Spellbound!, with an opportunity to advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
While competing, students are allowed to ask for the definition and the origin of the word they are spelling, and can also ask to hear it in a sentence.
