JAMESTOWN, S.C. – Funeral arrangements have been announced David Shuler, the longest-serving fire chief in South Carolina. He passed away at his home Tuesday following his battle with a terminal illness.
Shuler spent 52 years as a first responder in Berkeley County. Along with serving as the chief for the Jamestown Fire Department, Shuler was a past president of the Berkeley County Fire Chief’s Association.
He was also a recipient of the South Carolina Silver Crescent. The honor is awarded by the governor to a person “in grateful recognition of your contributions and friendship to the State of South Carolina and her people.”
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 6 at 11 a.m. at the Steel Shed Facility, which is located at 129-101 Steelshed Lane in Jamestown. Interment will follow at New Hope Methodist Church, which is located at 1691 Shulerville Road in Jamestown.
There will be no public viewing.
Fire departments participating with apparatus should be in place no later than 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Steel Shed Facility. Apparatus will come down Britt Drive to Water Pointe Avenue to line up for the procession.
