BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis is responding to the cancellation of the hit TV show, LivePD.
The cancellation comes following nationwide protests, which have called for police reform and the defunding of law enforcement amid the May 25 death of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis. Some critics argued that the show and similar ones “glorified” police.
Following this week’s cancellation of LivePD, the show’s host, Dan Abrams, took to Twitter to respond, calling the move “disappointing.”
“Shocked and beyond disappointed about this. To the loyal #LivePDNation please know I, we, did everything we could to fight for you, and for our continuing effort at transparency in policing. I was convinced the show would go on,” Abrams said.

“We are deeply disappointed after hearing of the cancellation of LivePD. This show provided an opportunity for civilians to have a look into the daily operations of patrol deputies and some specialized units. We were able to provide our residents with transparency, which our department values greatly. The entertainment aspect of the show was just a bonus.”

The decision for A&E to cancel LivePD was made public Wednesday evening on social media. LivePD was one of A&E’s top-rated shows. The reality show followed law enforcement agencies in real-time and captured their work routines.
The hit series premiered in 2016 and quickly became one of the biggest hits on A&E — and all of cable television — regularly drawing more than two million viewers to its broadcasts on Friday and Saturday nights.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said it has valued the experience and opportunity LivePD provided and look forward to another possible opportunity to do it again.
LivePD is not the only law enforcement show to get the boot. The popular hit show, COPS, which has been on television for more than 30 years has also been cancelled by the Paramount Network amid the recent protests.
