GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – A spokesperson for Century Aluminum has confirmed that an employee died at its Mt. Holly facility in Goose Creek Thursday evening.
Century Aluminum has released the following statement to The Berkeley Observer:
“It is with great sadness that Century confirms that an employee working at our Mt. Holly smelter in Goose Creek, SC passed away yesterday after sustaining injuries at the facility. The employee was treated onsite by emergency responders but was pronounced dead at the scene.
We extend our deepest sympathies to her family, friends and colleagues and have put in place support services at this sad and difficult time.
Investigations into the incident are underway and Century will cooperate fully with the relevant agencies.” – Peter Trpkovski, Century Aluminum spokesperson
Berkeley County Coroner George Oliver identified the worker as Naomi Cleaton, 63, of St. Stephen. According to the coroner, she was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a forklift while working at Century Aluminum.
