South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has announced the arrest of Brian Paul Franz of Summerville.
He’s charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. The Dorchester County Sheriffâs Office, a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, made the arrest.
However, it was the Berkeley Co. Sheriff’s Office, also members of the ICAC Task Force, that informed Dorchester Co. sheriff’s of the activity they discovered on Franz’s computer.
According to authorities, Berkeley Co. investigators discovered images depicting children engaged in sexual activity that had been shared from an account traced to Franzâs home.
A search warrant was executed Thursday by officers from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.
Franz was arrested, and several pieces of electronic computer equipment were seized for investigation.
If found guilty, Franz could face up to ten years imprisonment on each count. Bond was set at $60,000.
The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
Attorney General Wilson has stressed that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
