VIDEO: Wild, High-Speed Chase In Jamestown Ends With Mother-Son Duo Arrested

JAMESTOWN, S.C. – Two familiar faces to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office – a mother and son duo – are in jail following a wild car chase through Jamestown earlier this week.

On Tuesday, deputies said they received information about two wanted people in Jamestown identified as William Hugh Starkey, 23, and Melinda Ann Legette, 43. The two are mother and son.

Deputies had previous knowledge of the issues between Starkey and Legette and the possibility of the pair being a flight risk. Due to the seriousness of the charges, the assistance of the U.S. Marshals was requested. After attempting to run on foot, deputies said Legette was arrested with the assistance of BCSO deputies, U.S. Marshals and Jamestown Police.

The next day, deputies said they learned that Starkey was at a home on French Santee Road in the Jamestown area. Again, deputies called in assistance from U.S. Marshals and Jamestown Police and ventured out to capture Starkey, who led law enforcement on a high-speed chase. The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office recorded video of the chase.

Legette was charged with attempted murder, armed robbery with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Starkey was charged with armed robbery with a deadly weapon, assault and battery in the third degree, domestic violence in the second degree, failure to stop for blue lights, violation of probation, trafficking methamphetamine, breach of trust and forgery.

According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, both mother and son have a lengthy criminal record.
