GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has identified three people killed in what Goose Creek police are calling an apparent double-murder suicide.
On Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, at 9:43 p.m., the Goose Creek Police Department received a 911 call regarding a male suspect with a gun at a home on Water Oak Drive in Goose Creek.
Dispatchers were also notified, by the third-party caller, that the male suspect was intoxicated and holding hostages at gunpoint.
After police arrived at the location, officers surrounded the house. Hostage negotiators were called in and attempted to make contact; however, they were unable to.
The Goose Creek Police SWAT members entered the house and found two adults and one child dead with
gunshot wounds. Following a preliminary investigation, police believe the shooting is a domestic-related double murder-suicide.
Coroner Darnell Hartwell said the first victim of the shooting is Tracy McEvoy, 43, of Goose Creek. Her son, William McEvoy, 15, was also fatally shot.
Hartwell said the shooting suspect has been identified as Nicholas Hegwein, 43, of Goose Creek. The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the Goose Creek Police Department continue to investigate.
