MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – The Moncks Corner Police Department has been awarded over $169,000 from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety to support improvements to its equipment and technology.
The South Carolina Department of Public Safety approved $163,000 for the purchase of new tasers. The grant will give the MCPD the ability to update its tasers from the X-26P, which is one of the first-generation taser systems used by law enforcement, to the Taser 10, which is the latest model.
Second, MCPD will be able to purchase enough tasers to now equip every officer. The taser is a vital, less-lethal option that reduces injury or serious bodily harm to the officer as well as those individuals who show active aggression towards law enforcement or other members of the community.
Chief Young said, “As technology advances for both law enforcement and the private sector, it is important that the Monck Corner Police Department keeps up and finds solutions that help improve evidence collection and ensure officers are equipped with tools to handle any situation they may face.”
The South Carolina Department of Public Safety also awarded the Moncks Corner Police Department over $2,600 for the purchase of the CellHawk map software.
In October, the Town of Moncks Corner approved the budget for the Moncks Corner Police Department, which included purchasing a system from Cellebrite that would allow detectives to modernize their investigative workflow and close a widening digital technology gap in solving crimes.
CellHawk is an investigative solution that enables law enforcement to map, connect, and analyze records and digital location evidence. The combined systems will provide detectives with critical information and assist in prosecuting offenders.
