MONCKS CORNER, S.C.–Recent statistics show nearly 30 people are killed every day in drunk driving crashes across the United States.

On Tuesday, one Lowcountry organization will hold a candlelight vigil to remember those lives lost. This is the 25th year that the Berkeley County Prevention Board has sponsored the event.

Members hope it will urge people to think twice before drinking and driving.

Last year, more than a hundred people attended the service at the Moncks Corner AME Church, holding candles to symbolize anyone who ever lost their life at the hands of a drunken driver.

This year’s event will take place at 6:30 p.m. at 306 West Main Street in Moncks Corner at the AME Church.
Berkeley Co. Coroner Bill Salisbury will serve as master of ceremonies.

Two family members who’ve lost love ones from an accident involving a drunk driver will speak during the event.

For those who happen to notice a driver who appears to be under the influence, you’re asked to contact the South Carolina Highway Patrol at *HP on your cellphone.
