Jamestown Man Killed After Pickup Hits Fallen Tree

JAMESTOWN, S.C. — A Jamestown man was killed Wednesday afternoon after his pickup truck struck a fallen tree in the Francis Marion National Forest, according to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The crash happened July 8 around 4:30 p.m. on Tiger Corner Road in the Jamestown area, officials said.

A 2016 Ford F-150 was found in a ditch after investigators said the truck struck a tree that was already in the roadway, went off the right side of the road and hit a ditch.

The driver, identified by the coroner’s office as 41-year-old Christopher Britt of Jamestown, was the only person in the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner’s office said Britt died from injuries sustained in the collision.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, Berkeley County EMS, North Berkeley Fire Department and the South Carolina Forestry Commission assisted at the scene.
