1 Dead, 1 Critically Injured After Shooting Near Moncks Corner Gas Station

Authorities say the violence stemmed from a reported armed robbery; one person of interest has been detained as investigators work to determine exactly what happened.

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — A reported armed robbery in the Foxbank Plantation area of Moncks Corner turned deadly Wednesday afternoon, leaving one person dead, another critically injured and prompting a large law enforcement response.

Officers with the Moncks Corner Police Department said they were dispatched around 1:30 p.m. to the area of 106 Foxbank Plantation Boulevard, which leads to Parker’s Kitchen gas station, following reports of an armed robbery.

When officers arrived, they found multiple individuals suffering from gunshot wounds, according to police.

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Authorities have not released the identities of those involved, and investigators have not disclosed what led up to the shooting.

Police said one person of interest was detained shortly after the incident as detectives began piecing together the events that unfolded.

The Moncks Corner Police Department said investigators currently believe the shooting was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Police Chief Antwan Richardson called the incident a tragedy and vowed that detectives would conduct a thorough investigation.

“This is a tragic and senseless act of violence that has deeply impacted those involved, their families, and our community,” Richardson said. “The Moncks Corner Police Department is committed to conducting a thorough and comprehensive investigation to ensure that all facts are uncovered and that those responsible are held fully accountable.”

Richardson also asked residents to remain patient as investigators continue their work and to keep the victims, their families and everyone affected in their thoughts and prayers.

The chief thanked the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies that responded to assist with the investigation and securing the scene.

“Their assistance was invaluable in helping secure the scene, protect the public, and advance this investigation,” Richardson said.

The shooting remains under active investigation. Authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
