BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – A 71-year-old Hardeeville man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 41 in Berkeley County that overturned an 18-wheeler and sent multiple people to area hospitals, authorities said.
The collision happened at approximately 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of State Highway 41 and Halfway Creek Road, according to the Charleston Police Department.
Investigators said a pickup truck towing a camper trailer was traveling on Halfway Creek Road when it entered the intersection and was struck by an 18-wheeler traveling along Highway 41.

The impact caused the tractor-trailer to overturn before it crashed into an SUV that was approaching from the opposite direction on Highway 41.
The driver of the pickup truck, identified by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office as Floyd Rubino, 71, of Hardeeville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Coroner’s officials said Rubino died from injuries sustained in the collision.
A passenger riding in the pickup was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The drivers and passengers involved in both the 18-wheeler and the SUV were also taken to area hospitals with injuries that authorities described as non-life-threatening.
The Charleston Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is leading the investigation.
Investigators said the preliminary investigation indicates the pickup truck failed to stop at the stop sign before entering the intersection, causing the collision. However, police emphasized the investigation remains active, and no charges have been filed.
The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office is assisting in the investigation alongside the Charleston Police Department. Berkeley County EMS and the Mount Pleasant Fire Department also responded to the crash.

According to the Charleston Police Department, the crash marks the agency’s ninth fatal traffic collision of 2026.
