MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Berkeley County School District’s Title 1 Office is sponsoring a free book giveaway for students entering Kindergarten through 5th grade.
This is the third year the district has offered free books for students to read during the summer.
This year’s distribution began last Monday, June 8, 2015, and in just four days, 926 students from nine Title I schools received three books a piece to read during the summer.
Dr. Denise Ling, Director of Federal and State Programs for Berkeley County School District, said, “The greatest thing about this book distribution is that the students are receiving three high interest books based on content matter they will see in the grade they are entering. Not only are we battling the summer slide, we are planting seeds for future learning.”
This week’s book distribution will be hosted by several schools. Students who attend College Park Elementary School can go to the school on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to receive free books. St. Stephen Elementary and J.K. Gourdin Elementary School students can go to St. Stephen Elementary on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to receive free books.
The last day of the book distribution is Thursday, June 18, 2015. That day, students from H.E. Bonner Elementary School can go to the school’s cafeteria between 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. to receive their free books.
