MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – According to the latest data from the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce, Berkeley County’s unemployment rate has fallen below 4% for two consecutive months – 3.6% in November 2016 and 3.7% in December 2016.
This is the first time since September and October 2002 that Berkeley County has seen two consecutive months with an unemployment rate under 4%.
The last time Berkeley County experienced an unemployment rate lower than those in November and December of 2016 was in April of 2001, when it reached 3.5%.
“Berkeley County is open for business, and Berkeley County means business,” said Berkeley County Supervisor Bill Peagler. “By working aggressively to not only recruit new industry to the county but also to support our existing industries, Berkeley County is seeing tremendous success and opportunities for our residents.”
