GOOSE CREEK, S.C. — A new locally owned cafe is drawing attention in Goose Creek with its unique blend of Japanese-inspired baked goods, specialty matcha drinks and a faith-centered mission.

Cafe Hosanna, located at 106 Gosling Way, Suite C, officially soft-opened on May 28 and is preparing for its grand opening on June 3 after an enthusiastic response from the community.

Owned by Terry Hung and Ajjima Hung, the cafe offers customers a menu centered around fresh-baked Shio Pan — a Japanese-style salt bread known for its crisp exterior and soft, buttery interior — along with a variety of specialty matcha beverages made from premium first-harvest matcha.

But for the Hungs, Cafe Hosanna is about more than coffee and pastries.

According to the cafe’s website, the business was born out of a spiritual journey that began in 2024 when the family says they were saved by Christ and baptized. The couple, former owners of Tapio – A Boba Tea Cafe, said they felt called to return to the cafe industry with a new purpose.

“God had other plans,” the owners wrote on the cafe’s website. “He placed an undeniable calling on our hearts to create something new: Cafe Hosanna.”

Community Turns Out for Soft Opening

The response to the cafe’s soft opening exceeded expectations.

In a social media post following the May 28 debut, the owners thanked customers, friends, family members and staff for helping make the opening day a success.

“Our hearts are overflowing with gratitude for this amazing community that showed up, supported us, and made this day so special,” the cafe wrote.

The owners also credited their team of employees for helping operations run smoothly during the busy opening day and expressed gratitude to supporters who helped bring the vision to life.

A Mission Beyond Coffee

Faith remains at the center of the business model.

The cafe’s name, branding and mission are all tied to the owners’ Christian beliefs. On its website, Cafe Hosanna describes itself as a gathering place designed to foster community, connection and conversations about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

“Our hope is that every visit sparks meaningful dialogues about the Gospel of Jesus Christ, inspiring hope, healing, and spiritual growth,” the website states.

That mission has been evident throughout the cafe’s development. In an April social media post, the owners reflected on the challenges of opening the business and said the process strengthened their faith.

“A little over a year ago we prayed and asked the Lord to use us as His vessels to share the Good News and see people saved,” the post read. “We can’t wait to share the love of the Lord Jesus with everyone.”

Grand Opening Set for June 3

Following the strong turnout during its soft opening, Cafe Hosanna announced it would temporarily close for several days to fine-tune operations before launching its full menu.

“We’re taking a few days to reflect, fine-tune a few things, and make sure we deliver the best experience possible when we officially open,” the cafe posted on May 30.

The grand opening is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, when customers can expect the full menu and complete product lineup to be available.

Cafe Hosanna hopes to become more than just another coffee shop — serving as a place where neighbors gather, friendships form and faith-based conversations flourish, one cup and one loaf of bread at a time.
