BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Transportation has closed the Canady Branch Road Bridge in Berkeley County after heavy rainfall caused additional settlement of the structure.
The bridge, located on Canady Branch Road (S-8-361), was closed as a precaution while engineers evaluate its condition.

According to SCDOT, recent heavy rains led to further movement of the bridge, prompting officials to shut it down out of an abundance of caution. A full inspection is now underway to determine the extent of the damage and what repairs will be needed before the bridge can safely reopen.
State transportation officials said a repair plan will be announced once the inspection has been completed.
A signed detour has been put in place to route traffic around the closure. Drivers are encouraged to follow the posted detour and allow extra travel time while the bridge remains out of service.
SCDOT has not announced when the bridge is expected to reopen but said updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
The agency is also reminding motorists to slow down, obey traffic signs and use caution when traveling through the area as crews work on the bridge.
