BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Let the voting begin! Tuesday is shaping up to be unusually busy for a primary. Several poll managers have reported heavy turnout as soon as their doors opened at 7:00 a.m.
The lines calmed down, they say, an hour later but that is expected to pick back up around 5 p.m. when most people get off from work.
From Alvin to Daniel Island, there are a little more than 60 polling locations in Berkeley County.
Overall, the polls have been running smoothly. There were a few problems reported in Goose Creek where the precincts for many voters recently changed.
For voters who’ve always voted at the Goose Creek Municipal Complex in the past, their precinct changed to Westview Primary.
Because voting signs weren’t visibly marked, a lot of people ended up at Westview Middle instead–or still showed up at city hall.
The polls officially close at 7 p.m. Election officials expect to get the votes all in by 9:00 p.m. but they say hopefully earlier.
