BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Carnes Crossroads continues to grow and evolve. Developers recently announced plans to build a unique Agrihood community as an alternative to urban and traditional suburban living in the Lowcountry.

To celebrate the announcement, developers and lead Agrihood designers held a groundbreaking, on the future development of the 11-acre farm connected to this Agrihood community in the highly popular Goose Creek area.

Developers said the new community will include farms, a multi-functional barn, and more. The Agrihood model prioritizes sustainable agriculture practices and healthy, environmentally sustainable living creating a unique farm-to-table experience for residents.

Carnes Crossroads is one of a small number of Agrihoods across the nation, and one of the first in South Carolina.

“This is an exciting step forward for our community,” said Gerrit Albert, Division President of South Carolina and Georgia. “We are proud to lead the way in sustainable, residential living in South Carolina.  The central component of the barn and farm within our Amenity Center encourages our vision for a vibrant, healthy, and connected lifestyle for our residents.  The addition of these community spaces will foster a sense of togetherness and engagement that is central to our Agrihood mission.”

As home development continues, the celebration groundbreaking marks the beginning of construction on the highly anticipated Agrihood Amenities which include:

  • At The Barn, residents will pick up their farm share and choose from a variety of curated local goods.
  • The Lake House, an expansive amenity center at the heart of the community, will serve as a gathering place and event venue.
  • Residents will also enjoy a stunning resort-style pool positioned on the edge of Lake Hewitt with a unique three-story water slide tower.
  • For those engaging in a more active lifestyle, Carnes Crossroads will be the perfect fit with a new state-of-the-art wellness center, sports courts, and playground for the kids.

Agrihood Experts, Tripp and Carmen Eldridge, will hire a dedicated, full-time farmer who will manage the day-to-day operations of the 11-acre farm.  The husband-wife duo has experience managing other Agrihoods in the United States.

“An Agrihood community with farming at its core brings people together.  There are shared experiences for residents ranging from volunteering on the farm to enjoying the bounty of the harvest as a community.  We are excited to see our farm officially take root in the Goose Creek community.” Tripp Eldridge, Convivial Food Scapes, Agrihood Expert for Carnes Crossroads.

Eldridge said the farm will grow everything from what you might put into a salad, to what you might put on your ice cream, such as blackberries and blueberries.
