BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – American Red Cross disaster-trained volunteers are assisting a family whose home, located on Sweet Cherry Lane in Summerville, was damaged by a fire Sunday afternoon.
The Red Cross is helping seven people by providing financial assistance for immediate needs such as food, clothing, and shelter, along with referrals to much-needed resources.
According to the Goose Creek Fire Department, it received a 9-1-1 call at 1:57 p.m. for a reported house fire.
Crews responded along with Joint Base Charleston Fire, Summerville Fire Department, Pine Ridge Fire Department, Central Berkeley Fire Department, Goose Creek Rural Fire Department and Berkeley County Emergency Medical Services.
The first crews on scene reported visible fire from the front of the two-story house extending to two cars and to the second floor of the house.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control within 15 minutes of their arrival.
Crews said they searched the interior and extinguished the remaining hot spots. One person inside the house was evaluated at the scene and refused medical transport. There were no firefighter injuries.
