GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–For the sixth year in a row, the only blood drive dedicated to the ‘Charleston 9’ was held at the Goose Creek Walmart on Wednesday.
Those who donated were treated to a free box of Girl Scout cookies, a 12-pack of assorted Pepsi products and also entered into a drawing to receive a $50 gift card.
During the blood drive, organizers set out a table to remember he nine Charleston firefighters who lost their lives during the Sofa Super Store fire on Savannah Highway in 2007.
The event was organized by Jim Morrell, a local firefighter who has worked for the city of Goose Creek for the last 22 years. He hopes to continue the blood drive for many more years to come.
In all, 45 people signed up to donate the gift of live, generating 31 pints of blood for the American Red Cross.
