Daughters of the American Revolution celebrate birthday

Oct 2014 DAR Party and BannerBERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–General Marion’s Brigade, the Berkeley County chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), celebrated their 15th anniversary with an Open House on Oct. 11th.

Six of the original Charter Members were present to reminisce about the early days of the chapter. It was also the 124th Birthday of the Founding of the National Society on October 11, 1890!

Regular and Associate members of the nearby Manning DAR chapter also joined the celebration. Ladies interested in joining the DAR had the opportunity to research their Patriot Ancestors on the DAR website.

At least one lady presented her completed application. Two more ladies were voted to begin the process of completing their applications.

The DAR is a service organization that promotes Historical Preservation, Education and Patriotism. General Marion’s Brigade has awarded 73 DAR JROTC Medals, 4 Good Citizens pins and 4 Youth Citizenship Awards.

They presented Community Service, American History Teacher and Student History Essay Awards. Every year the Brigade conducts the Francis Marion Memorial Service.

This DAR party was a celebration of those and more community achievements from the past 15 years.
