BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. — Drivers traveling through the Sangaree area should prepare for construction-related delays as Berkeley County begins a roadway improvement project aimed at reducing congestion and improving safety along Sangaree Parkway.
County officials announced that the Berkeley County Roads & Bridges Department will begin work on the Sangaree Parkway Improvement Project on Monday, July 6.
The project will focus on the stretch of Sangaree Parkway between U.S. Highway 17A and Royle Road, where crews will construct new turn lanes and make median improvements at several intersections. Officials say the upgrades are designed to improve traffic flow and make the corridor safer for motorists.
County officials noted the project was designed and will be built entirely by Berkeley County Roads & Bridges staff.
In addition to the intersection improvements, the entire length of Sangaree Parkway is scheduled to be resurfaced through the county’s 2026 Local Resurfacing Package at a later date.
During construction, motorists can expect periodic lane closures, shifting traffic patterns and minor delays throughout the project area. The county said work will be completed in phases to help minimize disruptions but is encouraging drivers to allow extra travel time, slow down in work zones and remain alert for construction crews and equipment.
The project is being funded through the Berkeley County One Cent Sales Tax Program.
