BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Santee Cooper customers in Berkeley County will have an opportunity next week to weigh in on proposed electric rate increases during a public comment meeting at the utility’s headquarters in Moncks Corner.
The public utility has scheduled three public meetings across South Carolina on July 27-28 to gather feedback on proposed rate and rate structure changes that, if approved by its board of directors, would take effect for service billed on or after Feb. 1, 2027, and Feb. 1, 2028.

The Berkeley County meeting will be held Monday, July 27, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Santee Cooper Headquarters Auditorium, located at 1 Riverwood Drive in Moncks Corner.
Two additional meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, with one beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Waccamaw Neck Library in Pawleys Island and another at 6 p.m. at Santee Cooper’s Horry-Georgetown Office Auditorium in Myrtle Beach.
The utility is encouraging customers to attend and share their thoughts before the proposed changes are considered by the Santee Cooper Board of Directors.
Anyone wishing to speak during a meeting must register upon arrival and bring a valid photo ID. Santee Cooper said every public comment will be transcribed and submitted to the board for review before any final decision is made.
The utility has not announced whether the proposed changes will affect all customer classes equally, but both the overall rates and the rate structure are under consideration.
What Happens Next
Following the public comment period, the Santee Cooper Board of Directors will review feedback from customers before deciding whether to approve the proposed rate adjustments. If approved, the first round of changes would take effect on bills for service on or after Feb. 1, 2027, with additional changes scheduled for Feb. 1, 2028.
