BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Two Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office deputies were injured Thursday night after authorities say an impaired driver from Goose Creek slammed into the back of their patrol vehicle while they were on duty in Summerville.
The crash happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. near 2076 N. Main St., according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said a deputy who was undergoing field training was riding with her Field Training Officer when the two were stopped at a red light in a marked patrol vehicle. As the traffic signal turned green and they began moving through the intersection, their SUV was struck from behind.
Authorities identified the other driver as Treyvon Behrends Wallace, 25, of Goose Creek.
Both deputies were taken to a local hospital, where they were treated for injuries that officials described as non-life-threatening.
Wallace was arrested at the scene by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and charged with driving under the influence.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the collision. Officials said any additional information about the crash or the ongoing investigation will be released by SCHP.
In a statement, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office asked the community to keep the injured deputies in their thoughts as they recover.
The agency also used the crash to highlight the dangers of impaired driving, saying motorists who choose to drive under the influence place everyone on the road at risk and that the incident serves as another reminder of the potentially devastating consequences of drunk driving.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. Wallace is expected to face the DUI charge in court, while both deputies recover from their injuries. Additional charges or details could be released as the investigation progresses.
